Getting ready with your girlfriends before a night out is one of the most fun things you can do. Although sharing your beauty products with your besties is not such a good idea. Sharing is caring but when it comes to certain skincare and makeup products it’s best to be a stingy germophobe. It’s a good idea not to share your beauty products because:
- Sharing makeup products can easily spread bacteria and germs, leading to breakouts.
- Your makeup applicators can collect germs which can then lead to infections.
- In serious cases, you can end up with cold sores and no one wants that.
So without any further ado, here’s a list of products that are absolute no-nos when it comes to sharing beauty products:
1. Mascara
If pink eye and inflammation sound appealing to you, then go ahead and share your tube of mascara. It should come as no surprise that sharing mascara is an ophthalmologist’s nightmare. Your eyelids and eyelashes have a host of different types of bacteria. Sharing this beauty product with anyone is never a good idea. So keep that tube of mascara to yourself and protect your eyes from any probable infections (and also replace it every 3 months).
2. Jars Of Products
You don’t want the germs from everything you’ve touched during the day to end up in your skincare products, do you? That’s what happens when you dip in your fingers to scoop out your skincare products. It’s one thing when you put your own fingers into the jar of your skincare product, but when someone else does that, you have no idea what kind germs will enter in there. So save your face from breakouts and infections and don’t share this beauty product with anyone.
P.S If you have to then use a mini spatula to scoop out the product.
3. Lip Products
We’re all guilty of swiping on our bestie’s lip gloss, lipstick or lip balm. Unfortunately, I’ve got some bad news for you… Sharing your beauty products (especially those meant for lips) is a bad idea. There are chances that you might contract contagious organisms that cause the herpes simplex virus. Ain’t nobody has time for cold sores, yikes. Bottom line is, however well you know that person, don’t share your lip products with anyone else.
4. Makeup Sponges
A makeup sponge is probably the worst beauty product to share with someone else. It’s porous and more susceptible to storing yeast and bacteria (especially when it’s wet). It’s best to use a makeup sponge on clean skin and cleanse it after every few uses with warm water and mild soap. Of course, it goes without saying, don’t share it!
5. Cleansing Devices
Think of all the dirt, grime, dead skin cells all the other gunk that cleansing devices pick up while cleaning your face. You don’t want someone else’s gunk to get collected on that device now, do you? These products were designed for personal care (emphasis on the word personal!). Sharing this beauty product is an invitation for breakouts and infections.
