The fashion and beauty industry is forever evolving, expanding and transitioning to break away from a one-way, one thought and one skin colour display. With inclusivity and diversity at the forefront, it’s refreshing to see a woman of colour on the cover of magazines, TV commercials and billboards and the ever game-changer, Priyanka Chopra Jonas seems to be leading the tribe… For the July issue of InStyle magazine, PC not only graced the cover but she did so wearing a saree by Tarun Tahiliani and looked like a goddess!
The actress, singer and entrepreneur proudly showed off her Indian heritage in a muted Sabyasachi saree that included a belted waist, a bikini-like blouse and a glowing bronzed back. Nick Jonas‘ wifey surprised us all with her sizzling look for the cover of the magazine in a Tarun Tahiliani number.
Priyanka spoke about her love for a traditional Indian outfit, saying;
Sarees are my favourite. My problem is when it comes to Indian fashion, there are always these shiny, sequined, over-the-top Christmas-tree outfits. Those are not the sarees I wear. I grew up with my mother wearing sarees to the hospital, as a doctor. She’d wear these beautiful ones made of French chiffon, with a bindi over here.
That, to me, was a modern woman. And that’s what I want to show the world. Indian designers make such incredible clothes that are inspired from beautiful embroidery and patterns.
She further goes on to say that;
I want to create that opportunity for many more actors from outside the U.S. — and it doesn’t have to be just Indians — to come into global entertainment and be up for lead parts without having to just play, you know, what their ethnicity defines.
Let’s not forget about her hair and makeup look for the cover. Keeping with the muted tones of the shoot, PC donned Indian headgear with a straight blow-dry, along with a blushed and bronzed base, and gold lids.
I’m all for this cover and these looks! How much do you guys love this look?
