The makers of the Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao starrer — Mental Hi Kya — released the first look of their film a while ago and were met with some fair share of objection with regards to the title. Mental health advocates and experts, including the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS) termed it insensitive. Now, the makers have revised the title of the film and it has been greenlit by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The meeting took place with producer Ekta Kapoor‘s father, Jeetendra, and Kangana Ranaut in attendance. The makers and the CBFC, together, seem to have collectively agreed upon a revised title for the film, which will now be called ‘Judgementall Hai Kya‘.
Confirming the news, a spokesperson from Balaji Telefilms said:
Given the sensitivity attached to the issue of mental health and our intention of not offending or hurting anyone’s sentiments, the makers have decided to change the title of Mental Hai Kya to Judgementall Hai Kya. Both Kangana and Rajkummar have outdone themselves in this thriller and we can’t wait for audiences to witness it on the big screen. CBFC has cleared the film with U/A certification with minor changes, which the makers are happy to comply with. With the CBFC clearance, the movie is all set to release on July 26.
According to an article in Mid-Day, when asked about the film’s title, Kangana Ranaut also confirmed there will be a change and that they are glad to accommodate it.
Here’s what she had to say:
There will be a mild, small change in the title of the film. Because they (CBFC) find it a bit too harsh. And we are more than happy to do that. Other than that there are absolutely no cuts. They were rather thrilled to see the film.
Now, isn’t that great to hear! A source present at the meeting revealed to the daily that the revised title “encapsulated the theme of the thriller, which takes a stand on people being judged by society.” They also mentioned that the word ‘mental’, which was used in few sequences, will be muted in the edit.
Now, this is some good news for everyone close to the film, and Kangana, who is always so dedicated towards her films and her work and makes sure to be there for it during tough times! Directed by Prakash Kovelamudi and co-starring Rajkummar Rao, the film is scheduled to release on the 26th of July and is one film we look forward to watching!
