With a career spanning about 4 decades, Girish Karnad was one of the most renowned playwrights, screenwriter and actor in Kannada and Hindi cinema and theatre. The 81-year-old veteran personality passed away in Bengaluru due to a prolonged illness.
A multiple award winner, he has been conferred the Jnanpith Award, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for his immense contribution to cinema and the arts. He will always be remembered for his role as Swami‘s father in the famous television show Malgudi Days. His critically-acclaimed plays like ‘Yayati‘, ‘Hayavadana‘ and ‘Tughlaq‘ written in Kannada and translated to English are watched till date. He has also worked in some famous Bollywood projects like Tiger Zinda Hai, Utsav, Pukar, Dor, among others.
