Hot springs are one of the best natural phenomenons, don’t you think? I recently went on a trip to Kasol to visit the hot water springs in Manikaran and it was the best experience I have had, TBH! It is soothing to the eyes, body, and soul. So, I dug a little deeper into it and read about the various hot springs around the world and one of them caught my eye. Those were the terraced hot spring pools in China’s Huanglong Valley.
Why though?
Nicknamed as ‘Yellow Dragon’, these hot spring pools change their colour naturally every season. They’re situated in the center of China in the north of Chengdu. Created naturally by mineral deposits, these hot springs paved their way through rugged mountains, hence the nickname.
These scenic pools spread from an ancient temple to the Xishen Cave and Waterfalls, covering a huge distance of 2.2 miles. The pools have also been nicknamed as ‘Fairy Land on Earth’, thanks to its rare colour-changing phenomenon.
This beautiful place is not just a part of the Huanglong Scenic Reserve in the Huanglong National Park but is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also the home of Giant Pandas and Golden Snub-Nosed Monkeys living in the forests around the pools. And that’s not it, as per Atlas Obscura, the waters there also contain some rare creatures that are only found in and known to China.
The best season to visit the Huanglong Scenic Reserve is between April and mid-November and the costs for the entry here also experience a splurge.
