For some, an itchy, scaly scalp is a seasonal disruption, but for many, it can be all year round problem. Our first solution is to switch our shampoos. There are so many shampoos and oils available on the market, but not all work for you. Like everything else, not all shampoos are tailored to your scalp. So, if one works for your friend, that doesn’t mean that it’ll work for you. Also, because these shampoos are heavy on chemicals, in the long run, they become a temporary solution.
If it’s a persistent problem and cannot be resolved in any other way then we recommend a dermatologist’s consultation. But if you’re game to try some homemade solutions that are tried and tested, then here are a few DIY hair masks that’ll help you combat the pesty problem, dandruff:
1. Yoghurt + Honey + Lemon Juice Mask
In the 3:1:1 proportion, combine yoghurt, lemon juice and honey respectively. Once nicely mixed, strain the mixture through a fine cloth and apply it all over your hair. Concentrate on the scalp while applying the mask. Keep it on for good 2 to 3 hours. Rinse the hair thoroughly.
2. Fenugreek Mask
Soak fenugreek seeds overnight and then ground then the next day. Apply the fenugreek paste to the scalp and keep it on for at least 30 minutes. To remove the paste, wash your hair thoroughly with a mild shampoo.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar Mask
In a cup, take equal parts of water and apple cider vinegar. Put this solution into the spray bottle and sprints it onto your scalp. Massage your scalp and let the solution rest and do its magic for about 15 minutes. Then rinse it off. But with apple cider vinegar, we recommend doing a swatch test on your arms before you apply on your scalp.
4. Egg + Olive Oil Mask
In a bowl, take two egg yolks and two tablespoons of olive oil and mix well. Fully cover your hair and the scalp with the mask and let it be for an hour. Wash off the mask with lukewarm water. It’s recommended not to use hot water while cleaning the mask as the egg might coagulate.
5. Green Tea + Tea Tree Oil Mask
Take a cup of green tea and mix in two or three drops of tea tree oil and apply the concoction onto your scalp. Massage it into the scalp and let it rest for a few minutes. Then rinse it off with a mild shampoo.
