Popular TV show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! has garnered a massive viewership over the years and hooked the audience to its premise and comical plot lines. The characters have undoubtedly gone on to become a household name.
Recently, the show got into a bit of a pickle with regards to their content. The makers were slapped with a legal notice from the Election Commission of India, stating that the show seemed to be hinting at supporting a particular political party ahead of the General Elections. During the time before elections, the Code Of Conduct states that no one can promote or advertise any political party via mediums like media.
The plot sequence in question was about Swachh Bharat and the Ujjwala Schemes initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As he is a candidate in the current General Elections, any conversation about him or his work in any capacity can be looked at as promotion and violation of rules.
According to a report on Pinkvilla, during a recent screenwriters association event held in Mumbai, the show’s writer, Raghuvir Shekhawat said:
We didn’t mention any opposition party’s name, neither did we target any party. Everything was done in a limited way. We only promoted Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and the man behind the cause, that’s it.
He further added that the makers are planning to respond to the notice soon. Well, all we can do is hope that everything is well in Bhabiji‘s ghar soon!
