The internet has been rife with speculations that Shah Rukh Khan might not be reprising the role of the indomitable gangster in the third installment of Don. Apparently, post Zero‘s not-so-great numbers at the box office, SRK was bummed out and had recently backed out of the Rakesh Sharma biopic. When Farhan Akhtar remade 1978 hit Don with Shah Rukh, the audience welcomed him with open arms, hoots and overflowing theatres. So, when rumours about SRK backing out of the project surfaced, it was a shock to everyone. Moreover, more unverified reports on the internet suggested that Ranveer Singh was in talks to replace King Khan. Now the director himself has finally addressed these rumours while talking to DNA. And it seems like the director-actor is tired of these rumours.
Talking about the speculations, he said,
I am a bit tired of speaking about Don 3. This news doesn’t come from me. I don’t start and end it. People can happily say what they want to and amuse themselves. When I have something to say, I will say it. There is nothing to hide.
Earlier this week even Farhan’s sister, Zoya Akhtar was asked about the same and she had also called these rumours absolute nonsense.
Back in 2017, the Don franchise’s producer Ritesh Sidhwani had talked about how they had finally locked down a script for the 3rd installment, but it’s been 2 years since then and the film is yet to go on floors. At the beginning of this year, the makers had zeroed in on a title. The 3rd film will be called Don: The Final Chapter. This got all SRK fans to feel a little bittersweet about the film, knowing that this would be the last SRK-led Don. Either way, we hope to see SRK as Don on our big screens very soon.
