On the scale of 1-10, how excited are/were you to watch Captain Marvel? I was at 10 and had already pre-booked my ticket for yesterday’s show. The introduction of Captain Marvel at the end of Avengers: Infinity War was a brilliant way to make way for the namesake movie, which released before Avengers: Endgame.
Apart from my interest in the comic character, what made me wanna see the movie on the first day itself is the lady playing the part. I admired Brie Larson‘s work in Room, for which she won an Academy Award and rightfully so. So, when she was introduced as Captain Marvel, I couldn’t wait to see it on the big screen.
Fast forward to today, I am currently obsessed with her red carpet (or in this case, blue carpet) looks at the press conferences and premieres of the movie too. It’s only because all the custom ensembles she wore during these appearances had a representation of Captain Marvel is some way or another. Here are my favourites:
1. All About The Nude
Before Max Mara‘s Fall Winter 2019 collection even hit the runway, Brie was flaunting one of the monochrome looks at a press con for Captain Marvel. Celebrity stylist Samantha McMillen continued the tones of nude with ankle-boots from Stuart Weitzman.
2. Hey, It’s A Gown! Nope, Look Again…
Oscar de la Renta had customised a stylish blouse with a long cape-like train with the Captain Marvel star emblem at the back. This first picture gave it an illusion of being a red-carpet worthy gown, but as I swiped left it was revealed to be a one-off shoulder faux leather top teamed with straight-cut pants. Here’s an outfit fit for a superhero IRL!
3. The Valentino Vibe
Another incredible, custom couture piece by Maison Valentino that she wore for the UK premiere resonated with the character through the shade of blue. The off-shoulder gown had cut-out details at the waist with pleats, godet skirt and pockets! Now that’s called a win-win-win situation.
4. On A Starry Note…
Rodarte reimaged the star emblem of the comic character and translated it into the motif that was seen all over the gown. The wrap style detail and the cascading train just added to the alluring effect of the ensemble. Completing the look were the starburst drop earrings from Sydney Evan.
5. Rainbow + Sequins = Pure Love
For the NYC screening, Brie went for a modern look with matching separates from Rodarte that were embellished with rainbow sequins. Here the personalisation came in the form of the box clutch from Edie Parker that had Captain written on it.
I can’t get over how cool all these looks are individually and how they contribute towards the story-telling of her character in the movie. What are your thoughts about her red carpet looks? Let me know in the comments below.
