One of the best ways to unwind is to travel. Travel not only is a great way to just shut off and head to an exotic new place, but also to find yourself and take this time to spend some time by yourself too. But if you’re a woman and are thinking of travelling solo, there are many things you need to keep in mind before you set sail for your trip. As sad as it is, there are many times a woman might find herself in a not-so-safe environment and for such situations, she must be prepared. We got in touch with Vishal Kejriwal, Co-Founder and CEO of Taxidio Travels, an online travel itinerary planning portal and he gave us some really good tips that’ll let every female solo traveller enjoy her vacay without stressing out. So, let’s get right to it.
1. Do your research
Vishal stressed on this point a lot. He said that one needs to do a good amount of research on the destination you’re heading to. Details like where you’ll stay, the places you’ll visit and such should be pre-planned and booked. The anxiety of not being booked until the last minute is never good and it could cost you.
2. Carry battery packs
Keeping all your batteries fully charged is really important. You don’t want to be disconnected from the world thanks to running out of battery. Plus, it won’t be easy for your loved ones to track you if your devices are switched off.
3. Turn your game face on
One of the most important factors while travelling alone whether it’s internationally, within the state or even locally. Even if you’re lost or clueless, it’s important to look confident and not nervous.
4. It’s all about the ka-ching
When travelling far away from home, it’s essential to have enough money on you. Make sure that you have some cash in multiple places and not all in one bag so that if you misplace some cash, you still have a backup. And also make sure that you have ample amount of funds in your bank account for emergencies. It’ll help if you download apps that’ll track your expenses and help even convert currencies for you efficiently.
5. Be alert
It’s super important to stay alert all the time. If you’re at a foreign destination and you’re not really familiar with the language, it’s good to pay attention to what’s going on around. When you’re heading out, keep an eye on your luggage because tourists are often victims of theft and mugging.
6. Be active on social media
While one travels to get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city they live in and want to switch off from social media, it is actually clever to regularly post, update your feed and stay active so your loved ones can know your whereabouts.
7. Don’t forget your purpose of travel
And lastly, but most importantly, don’t forget why you’re travelling. Sometimes, it’s overwhelming to travel alone and can be too much to handle. But you should remember why you wanted to head out solo in the first place. You’re alone and that’s a good thing so don’t let your nerves get the best of you—just enjoy your surroundings and soak in all the culture!
So, if you’re planning to switch off, take a break and travel solo to a destination you’ve never been to before, make sure that you check off these things from your ‘To Do’ list to be on the safe side. But other than that, don’t forget to have an effin‘ blast! Safe travels!
