Every once in a while, I find myself searching for some high school movies to watch after a long day. I’d agree a lot of them are way too cliché, but you can’t deny the fact that they’re fun to watch with your gang. From the classics to the new ones, I’ve almost ticked off every single one and watched them. And here are some of the best ones I’ve recently seen and loved.
Check ’em out:
1. The Breakfast Club
If you haven’t watched this movie yet, what are you even doing? A classic high school movie about five students who are on detention in their library. All five of them have completely different personalities and mindsets but as the hours go by, they leave behind their egos and become great buddies.
2. Dumplin
This movie is not one of the typical high school movies, TBH. A plus-size daughter of a former beauty queen is on a protest to change the usual beauty pageant expectations and harsh truths. And what better way to do it than at your own mother’s pageant? Her protest quickly escalates and motivates many others to follow her. Finally, turning into a revolution in their small town.
3. Hairspray
This high school movie is both entertaining and heartfelt. It isn’t just a musical with some super catchy songs but dives deep into the issues of racism and equality for black people too.
4. The Spectacular Now
What happens when a popular, socially active guy meets an introverted girl? After waking up on a stranger’s lawn, the first thing he sees is this girl. While he is dealing with serious alcoholism and she is planning for her future after school, love blossoms beautifully between the two.
5. Sierra Burges Is A Loser
Are high school movies without popular student rivals even complete? A teen who wishes to win the heart of her high school crush takes a risky road of catfishing to make it happen. She even goes as far as joining forces with a popular student who she initially wasn’t very fond of.
6. The Kissing Booth
Is dating your best friend’s brother wrong? This movie will take you through all the emotions of having a crush and dealing with the usual high school problems. The girl sets up a kissing booth at the spring carnival but then comes face to face with her long term crush, who happens to be her best friends brother.
7. High School Musical 3: Senior Year
Senior year can be scary, you don’t know where life will take you next. There is also the fear of losing that connection with your friends. This movie is all about it and much more. Also, it’s HSM, you gaiz!
