Swara Bhasker has always been vocal about her views on everything, especially when it comes to social evils such as patriarchy. Recently, the actress was a guest on her Veere Di Wedding co-star, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s radio show, What Women Want with Kareena Kapoor Khan, and she spoke about how difficult it is to be an opinionated woman in the society and how tough it is to call out patriarchy in your own home.
She shared:
The most difficult thing is to question yourself and people around you, especially whom you love the most including your parents, brother and boyfriend. When it comes to patriarchy it should be viewed as a conversation among sensible people. Also, I feel bad for boys sometimes because the problem lies with the parenting method which doesn’t let them equip with strong and opinionated women. They have also silently absorbed that patriarchal attitude and don’t know how to deal with this.
She further said that it is something she has experienced herself. Her boyfriend Himanshu Sharma, who is also a writer, wouldn’t discuss his work with her despite being in the same industry. Swara pointed this out to him. She further revealed the reason for it.
She said:
He told me this is because he has imbibed this from his father as he never seen his father discussing the work with his mother back at home.
Patriarchy is certainly deep-rooted in our society and difficult to deal with when faced with one of our loved ones. Do you agree with Swara’s views?
