Popular film critic, Rajeev Masand‘s The Actresses Roundtable 2018 featured some of the finest actresses of our industry, who are known for their work across varied film genres. All the ladies – Rani Mukherji, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Anushka Sharma, Tabu and Taapsee Pannu – are responsible for doing some wonderful cinema in the past year.
The squad discussed a range of topics on the show, one of them being the #MeToo movement, which gained steam in Bollywood in 2018. While Deepika and Anushka took a stand on the movement and its importance, Rani’s vision was different. You can read her views here. As expected, her comments backfired and Rani was trolled for being ignorant and speaking from a position of privilege.
However, Kangana Ranaut came to Rani’s defence recently and said it’s sad to see a woman being attacked for speaking on the issue of women empowerment. She told DNA that probably Rani wasn’t able to articulate herself very well because the way she leads her life embodies empowerment. Kangana further said that the Mardaani actress isn’t weak and actually lives upto whatever she says.
