In India, a traditional look already highlights a belt with a saree aka the Kamarband. Kamarband has been part of the desi attire since the very beginning and has been an integral part of a few regional bridal looks too. So, we love that designers are going back to their roots with this trend but with their own contemporary twist.
It’s all about belting your sarees at the waist now. Especially, after seeing fashionistas like Shilpa Shetty Kundra ace the saree game, we all do want to amp up ours too. And this new trend of wearing a quirky belt over the traditional drape might just be it! New-age designer Punit Balana is in on this style trick and has many designs featuring this trend. So, we thought he would be the perfect person to give us some advice on how to slay this new trend, especially for the wedding season. And here’s what he has to say:
Over years there has been a lot of innovation in saree draping and styling it with a belt, being in vogue currently. Belt on a saree gives a modern twist to the traditional saree, accentuating the curves. It also helps in interesting experiments with draping styles like wearing a saree on a pant with a crop top or wearing a saree with a jacket blouse.
The winters are here and sarees make for a perfect look for the ongoing wedding season. You can style your saree with a jacket blouse and belt to help you keep warm and look stylish!
Now that’s exactly the kind of advice we were hunting for. For more inspo, scroll through these celeb-approved belted saree looks:
