Taft point at the Yosemite cliff in California has been the hotspot for selfies, professional photography, and romantic proposals. Travel enthusiasts and explorers climb to the top of the cliff to truly live life at the edge. One such self-identified, adrenaline junky couple hiked to the Taft point a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, they fell off the cliff to death while taking a picture.
The married couple was identified as Vishnu Viswanath and Meenakshi Moorthy, who had been successfully running a travel blog and Instagram page called holidaysandhappilyeveryafters, which currently has more than 22,000 followers! They journeyed to a lot of destinations and have put up beautiful pictures and posts about the same.
Another couple named Sean Matteson and Drea Rose were present there and captured a picture of Moorthy minutes before the incident happened. He expressed how she stood out from the crowd with her pink hair which made him notice how close she stood to the edge. He said,
She gave me the willies. There aren’t any railings. I was not about to get that close to the edge. But she seemed comfortable. She didn’t seem like she was in distress or anything.
Though Moorthy and Viswanath were always aware and careful about their surroundings and how things could end up with one wrong step, they met with this unfortunate incident costing their lives. MyYosemitePark.com, a travel website urges people against clicking selfies or posing at Yosemite on top of the cliffs. The site says,
It would only take a loose rock or bad footing to plummet.
Events like these are unfortunate and unexpected. It is better to live the moment and capture it in your heart than take extreme steps and click a picture just for the sake. A reminder for all you people, you are important and so is your life to many others. Be aware of your surroundings and stay safe!
