Sacred Games was one of the most talked about and appreciated Indian Netflix shows this year. The performances, the rawness, the direction and the fact that it obviously leaves you with a cliffhanger at the end have left all of us fans waiting for the next season. But recently with the break up of Phantom Films and the ongoing #MeToo movement, things might look a little different for the second season.
Post the break up of Phantom Films, we got to know exactly why the company was dissolved. One of its founder Vikas Bahl was accused of sexually assaulting an ex-employee three years ago. In the days that followed the #MeToo movement gained more momentum and Sacred Games writer Varun Grover was also accused of sexual misconduct by an anonymous woman online. Following this, the lead actor of the show, Saif Ali Khan in an interview with PTI, said that while there will definitely be another season, things might change.
He said,
We have been talking constantly. They don’t like me talking about the show anyways. I like working with them, they are brilliant. They want to keep it a secret. But I want to give you a clue. There was a terrible scandal concerning Kevin Spacey and he had a show House of Cards, the show is going on but Spacey is not there. Let that be a clue.
He had quite a strong stand against those accused of sexual misconduct.
Why should I bear the brunt and even why anyone of us who are not twisted or molesters?
Ahead of the shoot for Season 2, Netflix also released a statement.
At this time we are evaluating options on the path forward.
Well… we will have to wait and see what actually happens!
