Women all over India are calling out men in positions of power who’ve been lewd, sexually inappropriate or force themselves upon others. Vikas Bahl, Alok Nath, Rajat Kapoor and Abhijeet Bhattacharya were some of the many famous names to have come out. The stories that have come out about these men are downright disturbing, to say the least. But the silver lining is for every person that’s questioning a woman’s intention of outing these men there are a lot more people who are believing their stories and supporting these women. Many B-Town celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Varun Dhawan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor have come out in support of the #MeToo movement. In the light of the movement, the latest celebrity couple to speak out about the movement is Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao. The couple released a joint statement which Aamir put up on his Twitter handle. In the statement, they clearly stated that their company Aamir Khan Films was strictly against sexual harassment would not stand for any behaviour that might indicate towards this. They also that they had recently found out that someone who they were about to work with was recently accused of sexual misconduct and because of this they were stepping away from the film altogether. But, they haven’t disclosed as to who or which film they were referring to. They also promised to work towards making the industry a safer place for women.
Take a look.
From the past one week, ever since these harrowing stories have been coming out, the support that the survivors are receiving is heartening. That is exactly what we need right now. And we’re happy that there are steps taken in the right direction to make any working environment, a safe one for everyone.
