India’s #TimesUp movement has arrived and how! Little did we know that Tanushree Dutta‘s account of getting harassed by Nana Patekar on the sets of the 2008 movie Horn Ok Pleasssss was just the beginning. Just a week after Vikas Bahl was accused of heinous sexual assault by an ex-Phantom employee. Other than him, B-Town celebrities like Rajat Kapoor and Kailash Kher have also been accused of sexual misconduct. One of the biggest shockers was when writer-director Vinta Nanda recounted her harrowing story of how the veteran actor and B-Town’s Babuji, Alok Nath had raped Vinta about 19 years ago. It had shattered all our illusion of him being ‘sanskaari’ to put it mildly. After Vinta, a Hum Saath Saath Hai crew member also spoke out about how he had misbehaved with her on the sets. And now, actress Sandhya Mridul has taken to Twitter supporting Vinta and telling the world her utterly disturbing and scary experience with the actor. She recounts how the actor seemed to have taken a liking to her and constantly praised her. But the same day he had gotten extremely drunk and come to her hotel room to harass her and the account truly sounds disgusting and terrifying. Sandhya also extends her support to Vinta and Tanushree saying that she stands with them.
Take a look.
Everyday I personally wake up with a sense of dread, of who will be called out today. But at the same time, I am extremely grateful that this is happening. About time too, don’t you think? The number of women who have spoken out about their experiences is not shocking any more. I hope this movement that has started with a force does not fizzle out without any results of apt punishments to perpetrators.
