Tanushree Dutta may have been the one who started the #TimesUp movement in Bollywood. With AIB comedian Utsav Chakraborty and Vikas Bahl‘s offences coming out in the open. We have opened what is a pandora’s box of all the sexual harassment that urban women have been facing at the hands of people who know them and are in positions of power. On Saturday, the woman who was sexually assaulted by Vikas Bahl back in 2015 spoke at length to Huffington Post and the interview is gut-wrenching, g to say the least. Post that another notable actress has spoken about Vikas’s crass behaviour towards her. While Anurag Kashyap has spoken about what he thought of Vikas in the same interview that the woman had spoken up. Finally, another partner of Phantom Films has spoken up. Vikramaditya Motwane has come out to give his statements on the issue. He issued a public apology to the girl on Twitter and in his note claimed that he didn’t know of this until 2017 when Anurag told him about it.
Take a look.
With more and more woman calling out names of famous people, it just shows us for how long women all around us have been quietly suffering from all the harassment due to the fear of what might happen to them if they speak out. It is also heartening to see that B-Town celebrities like Kangana Ranaut, Dia Mirza and Sonam Kapoor have spoken out in support of the woman.
I’m glad times have changed and women are finding the courage to speak up. As for Vikas Bahl, if the allegations are found true, I hope he is bought to justice with a deserving punishment.
