Just a few weeks ago, Bishop Franco Mulakkal was accused of raping a 44-year-old nun and this is all the more reason for each one of us to say #ItEndsWithMe. Time and time again we hear of these bone-chilling atrocities, and it saddens our hearts each time we report them.
The Bishop had been continually raping the nun for 2 years between 2014-2016, and only in June did she file a complaint alleging that she was sexually assaulted by him multiple times in the Kuravilangad convent in Kerala.
What’s even sadder is how the nun actually approached the authorities in the church multiple times, but no one heard her plea. After the inhumane things Mulakkal did to her, one would think an institution like this would take immediate action but it didn’t. The nun then approached the Kerala police and in June this case was only taken up by them a few weeks ago.
This delay in taking immediate action, we feel is one of the biggest reasons the multiple rape cases in India, have been stacking up one after the other. Whether it was the church authorities or the police, there was no one who took appropriate measure to bring any justice to the nun.
Following this were three days of rigorous interrogation after which the accused, Bishop Mulakkal was arrested by the Kerala Police. Even after circumstantial evidence, witness statements as well as the the nun’s statement, he claimed he hadn’t done it. But all the evidence pointed otherwise.
The court will now pronounce the order on October 3, reported ANI News. Stay tuned to MissMalini for more updates on the case.
If you know someone or are someone who is being mistreated, do not be afraid to tell someone about or get help. Speaking up is the first step to justice that many are afraid to take but what we need to realise is that it is the most important step one needs to take too.
