The idea of love is very subjective from person to person. Every generation has its own way of expressing love. While we text, call and post Insta stories with our SO telling them how much we love them, our parents and grandparents would shower love by expressing themselves with hugs, kisses, buying flowers and PDA! Now, we’re not saying we don’t express our love through PDA, hugs and kisses, but it’s not like how our grandma and grandpa did it, don’t you agree? We look at our grandparents and wonder how their relationship has survived so many decades with such ups and downs. Here’s what we really need to learn from them.
1. Forgiveness
Everyone makes mistakes. It’s about what’s more important. The mistake, or the person who made them. Learning to let go is an art we need to learn from them.
2. Patience
There will be ups and down in life. And there will be times in the relationship when you’ll feel like you wanna rip your hair out. But, that’s when you need to keep it together and have patience.
3. Communication
Instead of holding any kind of grudges for a long time and exploding one day, you rather communicate your issues then and there itself.
4. Commitment
There was no such thing as separation during those times is what our grandparents still tell us. No matter what happened, they would make it work.
5. Being Friends First
There’s a certain amount of comfort that they shared back in the day. They would be best friends in every situation before they’re a couple. And that’s pretty darn amazing!
6. Compromise
As mentioned earlier, no matter how tense things might get, they wouldn’t even consider leaving each other. Instead, either one or both of them would meet half way.
7. Fights Don’t Mean It’s The End
Every couple fights! And instead of discussing how many fights they had, they would try and understand each other. They’d get to know each other better with every passing fight.
8. Little Gestures Are Romantic
Random hugs and kisses, surprises, flowers and cooking each other’s favourite meals would make their day. The idea of romance was so different back in the day.
9. The Feeling Will Fly
While they’re still romantic with each other, after so many years, if you can still manage to be with each other knowing that it’s not as exciting as it was in the initial few years, is still pretty great.
10. Limiting The Technology
There was limited technology back in the day. That made the relationship so much more exciting. When they’d meet, they would be with each other only. No Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. All they’d look in were each other’s eyes.
So, if you need to look up at another couple for inspiration, there’s no one better who can give you serious #CoupleGoals than grandparents!
