So I happened to watch John Abraham‘s Satyameva Jayate last night and it was…a revelation. No I’m not going to write a pros and cons list of the movie because you’ll find that everywhere else. All said and done about the film, there’s definitely some plus points to this thriller/entertainer. So, this Independence Day, if you have nothing planned as of yet and would rather sit in the theatre than at home, grab a friend or a few friends, buy a large tub of popcorn and a drink to go with it and buy your tickets for Satyameva Jayate.
But before I begin my list of why’s let me give you guys some context or a forward to the movie. For all my south Indian friends out there, remember Anniyan? For all the others if you’ve come across the Hindi dubbed version of the same called Aparichit on Star Gold, congratulations. I’m not drawing similarities of that to Satyameva Jayate, but it follows the same principle just that it’s not as psychotic. But this movie definitely has its fair share of blood, gore, and backbreaking fight sequences. You better be ready for all of that.
So, here are 6 reasons you should totally watch this movie.
The Punchlines
Guys, Daisy Shah’s ‘Our business is our business, none of your business‘ from Race 3 is so last year already. Get with the time because this movie has some punchlines by both John and Manoj that are viral-worthy. No, really. Every alternate sentence in the first half of the movie is a punchline. The kinds that you’d whistle at.
Some gems that I couldn’t help but share:
- Ab Tujhe Aisi Maut Marunga, Ki Tu Iss Janam Mai Jalega, Lekin Dard Agle Janam Tak Chalega
- Do Takke Ke Jaan Lene Mai, 9 mm ki Goli Nahi, Chhappan Inch Ka Jigra Chahiye
If you thought we’ve left kickass punchlines back in the 90s, Satyameva Jayate wipes such misconceptions away. I’m secretly hoping there’s a second part to this movie just so that we get blessed with more such dialogues.
Manoj Bajpayee
TBH, I’d watch any movie with Manoj Bajpayee in it. This man is simply one of the best actors we have in this country. I can’t imagine anyone else playing the righteous police officer in the movie, better than him. But I kind of wished to see more nuances to his character especially because he was easily the best thing about the entire film.
Action Sequences
Action sequences in a John Abraham movie are sort of a given. But these were different, while in most films you get a villain who’s an equally good fighter. Here, John’s character is serving justice to those evils that corrupt the system. But I have to say there is this one fight scene towards the end of the movie that reminded me of video game characters consecutively punching the other character, quite an animated and thoroughly enjoyable scene. I just wish that John wasn’t dripping in blood from head to for it. That was quite hard to look at.
Dilbar Dilbar
I’m not a fan of old 90s or 80s hits being rehashed with new beats and made into an item song. But Nora Fatehi in this reprised version of Dilbar Dilbar is frikkin’ amazing. Everyone who has watched the song knows that. Those few minutes of the movie, you will not be able to take your eyes off Nora. And the fact that the song is part of the storyline makes sure that you won’t miss it. Although the setting of the song may have been too fancy for the story and where it was based. But you can’t help but swing a little to the beats of this song.
The Twist
It is the single most effective part of the storyline. Enough said. And as twists should be, this one is as good as it gets.
John Abraham’s Sex Appeal
I’m apprehensive about objectifying people, but hey, it’s a holiday and I just watched a John Abraham movie. It would be unfair if I didn’t mention how immensely hot John looks in the film. Other than a close up of his biceps, you also get a fully clothed and open shirt glimpse of his abs. And in such an intense movie, where John is playing a vigilante, there are hardly any smiles, but when he does it is quite cute.
Other than all the 6 reasons above, I feel like this movie will be an interactive experience for everyone who goes for it. There will be a lot of questions you want to ask and it will push you to clap or at least hoot at certain parts. And trust me, you won’t mind all the gore and burnings too much because bad things only happen to the bad guys in the film, unlike real life.
So go ahead and watch this movie as an Independence Day entertainer.
