Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha have done something so special ahead of Independence Day this year that it urged me to step out of my comfort zone and blog about celebrities—something I don’t do much of anymore. I genuinely love the way Dia uses her celebrity status to lend her voice to causes that are of so much importance but don’t get nearly enough press—like the environment and wildlife. In a time like now, where the Internet has been raging over things like the irresponsible representation of animals in fashion magazines, it is heartening to see things like this as well.
Yesterday, on the occasion of #WorldElephantDay, Dia and Sahil released their ode to the nation, an anthem celebrating the rich biodiversity of this country. Their production company, Born Free Entertainment has joined hands with Universal Music and Wildlife Trust Of India to launch the song titled, Mere Desh Ki Zameen and it is beautiful.
Musicians and singers, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Benny Dayal, Vishal Dadlani and Clinton Cerejo joined hands to create the sweet melody that celebrates the wild, amazing animals found in our country that we need to help preserve and protect. Prasoon Joshi wrote the lyrics, one of the lines which are,
Pyari hai mere desh ki zameen.
