Yesterday, Aamir Khan was at the Watercup awards organized by the Paani foundation, a not-for-profit organization set up by the team of the TV show Satyamev Jayate to fight drought in rural Maharashtra. The organization was founded by Aamir and his wife Kiran Rao. The event is hosted as villages compete to win prizes for the best watershed management work. There were political leaders from various parties before present at the event too. After the awards were handed out, Aamir spoke to the media about the efforts the NGO was making to better the water crisis in Maharashtra.
During the interaction, he was asked whether he would ever join politics if he was offered a Rajya Sabha berth for all the social work he was doing.
He said,
We are currently doing a lot of work and I think to do that work, there is no need to enter into politics. I am working in the creative field and people in this field have a major responsibility towards nation building and making the social fabric of the society strong.
About extending the watershed movement, he said,
Currently, 75 tehsils have been covered under the watershed movement. We would like to go deeper rather going larger. We will now focus on areas like the soil health, grass land, crop planning and tree plantation.
He further added that,
We would conduct parallel competition for the villages where the watershed movement has already been done and we will give them training on the soil health, crop planning, tree plantation and grass land.
Well, I’m Aamir on this one. You definitely don’t need to enter politics to do good in society.
We love that Aamir takes time from his busy schedule to do this. It’s always the little steps that count!
