For the last couple of months, our social media feeds have been flooded with Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, be it about Dhadak or just their shenanigans. Dhadak released last week and while the movie received mixed reviews based on its comparisons with the original film it was based on, Sairat. However, both, Janhvi and Ishaan received favourable reviews and managed to not disappoint the viewers as first-timers in Bollywood. The team celebrated the box-office success of the film which has minted close to Rs. 50 crores so far.
As we all know, Sridevi Kapoor who recently passed away was Janhvi’s mother and Ishaan is Shahid Kapoor‘s half-brother. This also led to a lot of speculation around the two and whether or not the young actors will be able to live up to the expectations that came with belonging to a family of actors too.
When asked about getting rid of the ‘star kids’ tag after the film, Janhvi said:
I hope so. Speaking for myself, I think I have a long way to go. I don’t think one film can mean success. Even though it means the world to me, I still feel that there is a lot more than I need to do and aspire to do, to earn love and affection and acceptance from people. I know that I need to do a lot more to earn that. But it is a stepping stone.
To which Ishaan added:
I am just happy that people are accepting and loving the characters and that I am able to be a part of that. It is their prerogative to label us as they deem fit. So I have no feelings about it
Dhadak being their first film put them under the industry and audience’s microscope but they seemed to have fared well. But it’s just the beginning of their careers in Bollywood and I’m looking forward to seeing what they do next.
