I love Netflix! So do most of my friends. Many of us had heaved a sigh of relief when the US-based video streaming platform was launched in India in 2016. After all, we were all tired of seeing our bahus turning into flies and naagins seeking revenge for their dead lovers. Don’t get me wrong – I’m sure there’s an audience for that too. But there was a large chunk of our current generation that no one was catering to.
Thankfully, we now have an array of options to choose from, in terms of the content we wish to consume. Whether it’s a hard-hitting stand-up comedy act like Nanette or a super gripping desi crime thriller like Sacred Games – we have some really great stuff to watch.
Naturally, everyone was super excited when Netflix released the trailers of two of their upcoming originals. But unfortunately, neither of these have managed to leave an impact akin to most of their previous releases.
Insatiable is an upcoming Netflix original comedy about a teenager, who gets bullied and fat-shamed by her schoolmates. On the other hand, Sierra Burgess Is a Loser is about a teenager, who gets bullied and fat-shamed by her schoolmates. Yup.
Anyway, so while watching the latter, I couldn’t help but remember a very similar saga helmed by our very own Kunal Kohli many years ago. A case of mistaken identity, a hot guy falling for a pretty girl, a not-so-pretty girl in love with the hot guy, an unnecessary love triangle – sounds familiar?

Check out the respective trailers.
Is this is a mere co-incidence or do you guys think the makers of SBIAL had somehow come across a DVD of the cult Kohli creation after all?
