Let’s face it, the rain ain’t going away anytime soon. And while we stock up on frizz-free shampoo, cute umbrellas and smudge-proof eyeliner, we must also take care of our skin. Most people overlook this, but treating your skin right in the monsoon should be a must-do! Here are the basic and beneficial ways you can take care of your skin… Even when you rather curl up in bed instead.
1. Protect Your Skin
Just because there’s a lack of sunshine, doesn’t mean the harmful UV rays can’t get to you! Don’t skip out on wearing SPF even in the monsoon. India’s top dermatologist, Jamuna Pai recommends for you not to use an oil-based sunscreen on your face as they tend to block the pores and can lead to acne—Especially if your skin type is prone to oiliness. She also suggests to keep away from water-based makeup as it can smudge if you suddenly get caught in the rains.
2. Increase Your Water Intake
Our bodies are made up of 65-70% water. So it’s really essential to hydrate yourself even though the weather will make you want to curl up with a hot coco. Make sure you’re drinking at least 7-8 glasses of water today, and everyday!
3. Keep Your Skin Clean
Dr. Pai stresses on the fact that our skin should be cleaned with a non-soapy face wash at least thrice a day. This helps to wash away excessive oil and dirt build-up and helps the pore breathe. Also, if you get wet in the rain, wash your face with a gentle face wash immediately. Rainwater sitting on your skin for long periods of time can make the skin itchy and will be easily prone to bacterial and fungal infections.
4. Book A Facial
Facials, peels and other advanced beauty treatments like microdermabrasion are a fantastic way to freshen up a dull skin. Make sure to avoid toners with alcohol, as it can further dry your skin in the monsoon.
5. Eat The Right Kind Of Food
Like we mentioned before, opting for a hot chocolate in this weather seems like a good idea, but we shouldn’t let go of the natural and essential nutrients our bodies needs. Make it a point to include foods rich in vitamin A and C. Like, carrots, strawberries and sweat potatoes. This will bring a natural glow to your skin.
So, there you have it. Straight from a dermat’s mouth!
