There are some TV shows that are totally timeless like F.R.I.E.N.D.S and though it’s been over 20 years, we can still relate to a lot of the characters and situations from the show even today. A similar show is How I Met Your Mother that aired in 2005. And although Barney Stinson (played by Neil Patrick Harris) was a ladies man in the series, he had a few theories that got us wondering. Here are a few of these theories.
1. The Cheerleader Theory
According to Barney from HIMYM, if you look at a bunch of girls at the bar, you’d immediately think they’re attractive. But if you really concentrate and look at them one person at a time, you’d realise that they looked better as a team.
2. The Mermaid Theory
The mermaid theory blew our mind. This basically suggests that even if you aren’t attracted to someone but spend almost all your time with them, you end up feeling for them because of all that time. The theory states that no matter how much a man is repelled by a person, as soon as they meet, a clock starts ticking until the time when he will eventually see them as a lovely mermaid.
3. Graduation Goggles
Robin explains that when you plan to break up with someone, there are times when you feel bad for that person and somehow you only think of the good times spent with them. Much like on your day of graduation, when you forget all the mean things your classmates do to you because you’re possibly never going to see them again.
4. The Engagement Ring Effect
According to the TV show, the engagement ring effect basically means that you’re suddenly off the radar. It’s sort of like wearing the cloak of invisibility in Harry Potter. No one really will hit on you or flirt with you.
5. The Platinum Rule
There’s a golden rule and a silver rule too. But here’s the platinum rule. According to Barney, the platinum rule is never ever to love thy neighbour, that means never to hit on someone who you work with, your neighbours, or anyone who you meet on a daily basis. Things could get messy and that awkward situation is the last thing you need.
6. The Reacher-Settler Theory
According to the show, every relationship has a reacher and settler. The reacher finds someone who is beyond their league and the other person settles for them. According to them, the settler always has the upper hand in the relationship.
These theories made us wonder whether they’re too accurate or completely absurd. Tell us what you think of these in the comments below.
