“What’s Wrong If Women Use Foul Language?”- Sumeet Vyas On Veere Di Wedding

Pallavi Manoj

There’s just one day left for the release of Veere Di Wedding and our excitement levels are beyond the moon. Along with being the first major chick flick in Bollywood, it also features the four Veeres drinking, partying, talking about sex and cussing to their heart’s content. Just like normal urban women usually do. But as these things go, the trailer received a lot of flack for such content because women are not ‘supposed’ to be ‘so bold and brash’ while being feminine. Even though the film has not been banned or gone under the censor scissors as with our neighbouring country, it has received its fair share of hate.

But now, Sumeet Vyas, who plays Kareena Kapoor’s boyfriend/fiance in the film has lashed out at the haters in an interview with India Today.in.

People are so prejudiced. What’s wrong if women use foul language? The film is about four women and their daily lives. It’s regular thing for people, men and women to use abusive words, not just men.

Took the words right out of our mouths, Sumeet.

He further called out the haters for being biased.

If guys in films do it, it’s cool. But women get trolled. This mindset has to change. Nobody has ever said anything about the foul language used in Omkara, and Gangs of Wasseypur. Yet there’s a discussion if a film has women doing the same.

He also added that the profanity in the film wasn’t added for effect but it was natural and uninhibited.

We couldn’t agree more. This is precisely what makes the trailer so relatable.

It’s 2018 and it still hurts some people when women are represented in any other way than being vulnerable and feminine.

Let’s leave it to women to decide how they want to walk, talk and dress, shall we?
