#MMExclusive: 10 Questions With Bollywood’s New Superhero Harshvardhan Kapoor

Priyanka Parmar

Harshvardhan Kapoor has been busy promoting his upcoming film, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero. The trailer of the Vikramaditya Motwane directorial took us by surprise with how real and gripping it looked. The film showcases Bhavesh Joshi’s journey of being just another guy to transforming into a hero and Harshvardhan pulls it off in a pretty impressive way. It is a superhero movie but darker and more real than what we’ve previously seen in the Indian film industry. This one definitely strikes a chord because of its anti-superficial nature.

While we are excited to watch the film, we asked 10 questions to Harshvardhan and here’s what he has to say about the film and more before it hits the screens tomorrow!

  1. What was your reaction to Mirzya failing at the box-office?

I was quite upset but it has made me stronger.

  1. Moving on to Bhavesh Joshi, did the transformation in the film have an effect on your life too?

It did. I don’t really have a martial arts background as such. I had to train in hand to hand combat for 6 to 8 months. There were specific sequences that they had choreographed and I had to learn all of that. It was physically and emotionally challenging.

  1. Mirzya and Bhavesh Joshi are both predominantly action based. Do you plan on acting in a rom-com next?

I am waiting for one of those scripts actually. I am really looking forward to doing something of a slightly lighter tonality because the first two and even the third film (Abhinav Bindra’s biopic) will be quite intense.

  1. What’s your take on Bhavesh Joshi Superhero clashing with Veere Di Wedding?

They are two completely different films. The producers and distributors decided that was the best way to go and I think both films can co-exist.

  1. In India, the superhero movies have been targetted towards kids. Do you think this film will strike a chord with the older audience?

I think kids will really like it too. I hope this one reaches kids because kids are smart and they watch films like this all over the world. I think this is a quality vigilante super-hero film and anybody that likes realistic films with good stories and emotions will like this.

  1. How was it working with the whole team?

It was great working with the whole team. It was very challenging. We shot in real locations through all the difficulties that Bombay brings like, crowds, locations and weather problems. It was a physically and emotionally draining film and left me quite drained by the end of it.

  1. How was it working with Vikramaditya Motwane as a director?

Vikram’s a very demanding director. You’ve got to give him your best scenes. He is very demanding of his actors and his crew, he demands excellence from everybody.

  1. Who’s on your list of dream directors?

Rakesh Mehra and Vikram were on that list so I’ve knocked-off two names from that. Now, Ashim Ahluwalia is my number one dream director right now. I hope I can do my fourth film with him. Zoya Akhtar is a great director, I think that would be a great marriage. I am a huge fan of Abhishek Kapoor, we’ve talked about stuff. He really liked the trailer too and Sir Sriram Raghavan.

9. Any message for the audience?

Just give the film a chance. We’ve worked really hard on it.  We’re trying to do something new for you guys. Please come and support us because if you do then we can give you more new things otherwise it becomes very hard for us.

10. How excited are you with the film releasing on 1st of June?

I am just really excited to see what people think about the film now. It’s been so long now and I am really really excited to see what people think.

Here’s wishing Harshvardhan and the team of Bhavesh Joshi Superhero good luck for the film’s success! We can’t wait to watch it.
