Varun Dhawan is currently cherishing all the positive reviews coming his way for his performance in Shoojit Sircar‘s October. The actor is usually seen in masala movies, barring Badlapur of course). His latest film, however, is rather different from the typical commercial potboilers that he’s previously been a part of. Plus, his heart-touching act as Dan is bound to stay with you even after you step out of the theatre.
In recent times, as content-driven cinema is slowly finding a footing in India, many of Varun’s contemporaries have also been doing a lot of unexpected roles and atypical characters. Hindustan Times asked him about the competition and here’s what he had to say:
I have no time for competition. I’m busy with films back-to-back, so there’s no time to think about what someone else is doing. I was promoting October while I was shooting for Sui Dhaaga [in Delhi]. And I’ve already announced my next [a dance film with Remo D’Souza].
He also added:
If you talk about contemporaries, yes, it’s all a very healthy competition. It was so inspiring when I saw Ranveer [Singh] in Padmaavat. He put in a tremendous effort and it was a superb act done by him. When I saw Deepika [Padukone] and Shahid [Kapoor], they were so good in the film. So, I don’t feel there’s any race here. It’s too much effort, I feel. Actors are supposed to glide.
We couldn’t agree more!
