Sridevi‘s untimely demise on 24th February, 2018 shocked the entire nation. The actress who was a megastar in her own right began her journey in cinema as a child actor in 1967 at the age of four. Since then, she acted in over 300 movies and made millions of fans around the world. The characters she played and the songs picturized on her definitely have a permanent place in our hearts.
The actress never lost her star status even after taking a long hiatus from the movies. She made a strong comeback with Gauri Shinde’s directorial debut, English Vinglish and reminded the world of the immense pool of talent that she was. The next film she appeared in was a Tamil fantasy action adventure named, Puli post which came her more recent and last film, Mom. The film was her home production and a story about a woman who was determined to avenge the rape of her daughter. It released in June 2017 and garnered a lot of acclaim from the critics while making a strong emotional connect with the audience. The actress played the character with a lot of honesty, taking every scene to the next level.
It is her flawless and gripping performance in this film that led the jury of the National Awards to honour her with the Best Actress title for 2018. While we can’t get over how sad her passing away was, the fan in us is proud that she made Indian cinema a much better place with her unmatched talent.
Her daughters, Janhvi & Khushi Kapoor along with her husband Boney Kapoor thanked the jury and others for the honour bestowed on Sridevi. Here’s what they said in an official note:
We are overjoyed to know that the Jury has conferred the Best Actor Award to Sridevi for her performance in ‘MOM’. It’s a very special moment for all of us. She was always a perfectionist and it showed in all the 300 plus films she did. She was not just a Super Actor but a Super Wife and a Super Mom. Its time to celebrate her life and her achievements. She is not with us today but her legacy will always live on. We thank the Government of India, the Hon’ble Jury Members for this honor. We also take this opportunity to thank all our friends, her fans who have been sending us congratulatory messages.
