Anyone who grew up in the ’90s knows that it was truly the best decade ever. In specific, the games that released in this decade were and are some of the best ever. These games are now considered cult-classics and set the standards for many games that we now play. While we may look back and look at how the graphics sucked and the gameplay was choppy, there is no denying that these games will always have a special place in our hearts. Here are 10 such games that will give you major nostalgia.
1. Diablo
While the 3rd instalment of the series which dropped a few years back left a lot to be desired, the original Diablo and the sequel were both some of the most epic games. They brought life to the dark hack and slash RPG.
2. Warcraft II: Tides Of Dark
The Warcraft franchise is still one of the most popular game franchises out there. Tracing back to its humble roots, we find this gem of a game.
3. Quake
The first game in the Quake franchise was truly a masterpiece. While the ones that followed were a bit of a letdown, very few new games still hold a candle to the original Quake. This FPS was one helluva adventure.
4. Unreal Tournament
A game that is now in its 9th instalment, was once one of the most popular games out there. It was one of the very few first-person-shooters that had a sci-fi theme to it. While the game still sees some competitive play, the player base has reduced drastically.
5. Starcraft
Starcraft till date is, in our opinion, one of the best games. With the Release of Starcraft: Brood Wars the franchise solidified it’s standing. There is still a huge player base and many players who play this fast-paced strategy game competitively as well.
6. Age Of Empires
Another game for the strategy game lovers, Age Of Empires was truly a game that we couldn’t get enough off. Almost every ’90s kid has played this and it will always have a special place in our hearts.
7. Wolfenstein 3D
Ahh! While this game has many die-hard fans to date, there are also many haters out there. Nonetheless, this game was truly one of a kind with its engrossing story mode that had you playing as a spy.
8. Civilization
This epic game was truly one of a kind at its time. This turn-based strategy game had you engrossed for hours. It wasn’t something you could just fake your way through. You had to think of each and every move.
9. Sim City 2000
The second instalment of the Sim City franchise was a super hit when it released. It was similar to Civilization except it didn’t have the turn-based system.
10. Command & Conquer
Back in the day, Command & Conquer was all the rage! This epic war game had you playing as various countries, fighting one another. It was a mix of strategy, war and storytelling and it had just the perfect balance.
