Everything You Need To Know About Layering Skincare

Natasha Patel

Skincare is the very first, essential step to achieving a flawless look. Choosing the right skincare product can get confusing for some of you who are aiming at creating a uniform and structured routine. Different products have different uses. So it’s essential to really maximise the use of each one.

Let’s take for example, cake! (Yes, this is a learning example. And no, I am not hungry). Before cake really comes into its own, there’s a process behind it. One must learn the right way to layer the ingredients to really construct the perfect look. Likewise, for your day or night-time routines, you need to know the correct order in which they are layered on—Only then can you be on the right path to glowing, dewy skin.

ProTip:
Layer from thinnest to thickest.

Step 1: Cleanser

Start by using a facial cleanser to remove all the dirt and oil buildup. Whether you’ve had makeup on or not, using a cleanser (gel or oil-based) is a must-do! Why? Because the key is to knock away all the excess makeup, sebum and dirt, which leaves your skin fresh, prepped and ready.

Step 2: Toner

Not many people know this but toners serve a great purpose. Filled with antioxidants, vitamin B and toning acids, toners are solve different skin problems and concerns.

Step 3: Serum

Serums that include vitamin C have been touted as “the” ingredient to solve any skin woe. From stimulating new collagen to acne spots, to reducing fine lines and wrinkles, serums are an easy fix that can be used in the morning or at night.

Step 4: Eye Cream

What about the skin under the eye area? They need some lovin’ too! Daily usage of an eye cream will help keep the skin elastic, hydrated and can improve or prevent against wrinkles, fine lines and collagen loss. So, it’s important that you don’t skip out on using an eye cream every night.

Step 5: Moisturiser

Leaving the thickest for last, a moisturiser does the bulk of repairing, restoring and regenerating your skin. Moisturisers are generally thicker and heavier so as to give your skin the much-needed hydration. When choosing one, make sure it includes ingredients like hyaluronic acid, coconut oil and and shea butter. Just keep in mind that if your skin is extra oily, you can get away just by using a serum alone.
