India is a country full of cultural heritage and so much talent. From famous artists like M.F. Hussain, and great singers like Lata Mangeshkar to inspirational entrepreneurs like Dhirubhai Ambani and L.N. Mittal. But today, we’re going to honour chefs who’ve have made India proud. Their unique methods of cooking have put India on the global culinary map. These Indian chefs are bound to be celebrated since they have created history in their own way. Here they are:
1. Sanjeev Kapoor
Famous for his TV show called Khana Khazana, Sanjeev Kapoor has easily become one of the most famous Indian celebrity chefs all over the world. His show ran for more than 17 years. He has written over 150 best selling cookbooks, is a restaurateur and winner of several culinary awards too.
2. Vikas Khanna
Chef Khanna is one of the most renowned Indian chefs. Although he now lives in New York and has earned a Michelin star for his restaurant, Junoon, he has worked in India for quite some time with many hotel chains like the Taj, Oberoi, Welcome, and Leela Group of Hotels. He has earned many awards including GQ India Man Of The Year, 2012.
3. Floyd Cardoz
He is a very experienced chef who has won many awards. He won Season Three of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters. He has also published many cookbooks and launched his own restaurant called The Bombay Canteen in Mumbai. He has a few restaurants in New York as well.
4. Vineet Bhatia
A Michelin star winner, Vineet is a talented and internationally recognized chef. He owns multiple restaurants all over the world. He is known for his progressive cooking methods and has won many awards over the years.
5. Atul Kochhar
Apart from being one of the most critically acclaimed chefs in the world, Atul is an extremely talented chef. He is also a television personality and was the second Indian chef in the world to receive a Michelin star for his restaurant Benares.
6. Gagan Anand
Based in Bangkok, Gaggan has his own award-winning restaurant called Gaggan that is known for it’s progressive Indian cuisine. He was also the first Indian chefs to win two Michelin stars.
7. Vicky Ratnani
He is one of the most talented chefs in the country. He has made a ton of TV appearances and has also cooked for Queen Elizabeth! He has curated menus for many elite restaurants like The Runway Project By Pizza Express and Korner House.
8. Manish Mehrotra
Known as one of the most exciting modern Indian chefs in the world today, Chef Manish launched Indian Accent, a globally recognised restaurant that was a result of Manish’s nine-year culinary journey. He was the only Indian chef who was invited to the World Gourmet Summit, 2011 in Singapore and has also won many awards.
9. Ritu Dalmia
Ritu Dalmia didn’t plan on being a chef, but her interest in it encouraged her to be one. She has opened multiple restaurants in Delhi and her current one called Diva has been a popular one. She has also hosted a TV show called Italian Khana that won many awards.
10. Vivek Singh
He is the CEO and Executive Chef of four London based modern-Indian restaurants. He started in London by launching The Cinnamon Club, then he opened Cinnamon Kitchen, Cinnamon Soho and Cinnamon Bazaar. He is also a Michelin star winner.
All these chefs are so talented and unique in their own ways. While some take the conventional and classic route, others use science and modern techniques in their cooking. Either way, we love how talented they all are and how proud we are of them.
