My favourite Naina, a.k.a Rani Mukherjee turns 40 today! She will soon be seen on the big screen in Hichki, after a gap of almost 4 years (Mardani released in 2014), where she yet again plays Naina – a girl who has Tourette’s syndrome and overcomes all odds to achieve her goals. Apart from being a comeback of sorts, the movie is also special because it releases a couple of days after her 40th birthday.
On her special day, Rani wrote a heartfelt letter talking about her career which spans more than 2 decades & all that she has seen during the journey – being an actor, doing movies which spread a message, holding her position in an otherwise sexist industry, moving beyond the shelf life imposed on married female actors & mothers, the perfection warranted out of women at all times, the discrimination they face, and in general, pushing the envelope as an artiste.

More power to you, Rani. And happy birthday! <3
