MissMalini is our #BossLady and we’re always curious to know her opinions about the world; what her interests are, and what she most definitely loves. Since movies are her jam, we thought we’d get her to tell us her most favourite movies of all times. These are definitely on our watch list now and should be on yours too, we think!
1. The NeverEnding Story (1984)
Takes you through a magical journey of a boy who reads a magical book with a warrior trying to stop a storm called ‘Nothing’.
Fun Fact: It was the most expensive produced movie in Germany at the time it was made.
2. Grease (1978)
This is a timeless musical love story that stole everyone’s hearts with the songs and amazing dance moves. John Travolta could not have looked more handsome and we were totally digging his look and role in this movie.
Fun Fact: The You’re The One That I Want sequence was shot in one day
3. Pretty Woman (1990)
A romantic movie with a twist; how a rich man falls in love with a prostitute he hires for a night.
Fun Fact: The opera Richard Gere takes Julia Roberts to is La Traviata, which is about a prostitute who falls in love with a wealthy man.
4. Love Actually (2003)
Themed around Christmas, this movie shows us the versatility of love through ten different stories.
Fun Fact: The word ‘actually’ is said 22 times by different actors in the film.
5. The Fifth Element (1997)
Starring the rugged Bruce Willis, this movie is about the world ending and how it can be saved by Willis, a taxi driver.
Fun Fact: The reaction on Bruce Willis’ face when the diva sings is for real. It was the first time he’d ever heard it.
6. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004)
A science fiction about a woman and a man who erase the memories of their relationship as a couple and then start dating again.
Fun Fact: During the scene in the train, when Kate Winslet punches Jim Carrey, Carrey’s reaction was not a part of the script. It was genuine as he didn’t know it was going to happen.
7. The Little Mermaid (1989)
A classic Walt Disney musical fairytale of a mermaid who wants to be human and also falls in love with one.
Fun Fact: In the first shot of the movie, when King Triton reaches the arena, for a split second, you can see Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck and Kermit The Frog in the crowd of sea-people as mermen when he moves over them.
8. Fight Club (1999)
This movie is so clever and detailed that everytime you watch it, you’ll find something new that you didn’t notice before. This movie is about a regular office-going guy who befriends a soapmaker and together they co-found the Fight Club‘.
Fun Fact: Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter spent 3 days recording orgasmic noises for their unseen sex scenes.
9. Inception (2010)
What a massive success this movie was. Leonardo DiCaprio was amazing as usual. He played a conman in this movie that is given a task of planting an idea in the mind of a rich man.
Fun Fact: To avoid confusion, television broadcasts in Japan include text in the upper-left corner of the screen to remind viewers which level of the dream a specific scene takes place in.
10. Titanic (1997)
The classic movie based on a true story of a woman who fell in love with a boy on the Titanic ship. She lived to tell the story and everything that happened on it before it sank.
Fun Fact: When Kate Winslet found out that she had to be naked in front of Leonardo, she decided to break the ice and flashed him the first time they met.
11. Catch Me If You Can (2002)
Based on a true story of a genius conman that fools the world with fake degrees and signatures to make people believe he’s a lawyer, pilot and doctor.
Fun Fact: The entire movie was filmed in 52 days.
12. The Social Network (2010)
About Mark Zuckerberg, a Harvard student and founder of Facebook. The movie is about how he came to building it and making the social virality of today.
Fun Fact: Mark Zuckerberg in real life had never heard of an Appletini before he had seen the film. After he tried it, he liked it so much he made the Appletini Facebook’s official drink.
If you haven’t already seen these, it’s almost imperative to watch them. Some of them classics, while the others, pure genius.
