When you think about fashion, what comes to mind? It’s usually trends, styles, sizes. Well, Shyma Shetty and Pranav Misra (the designer duo behind Huemn) made us dig a lot deeper.
Teasers about their upcoming Fall-2017 collection kept us on our toes. They openly asked questions that no one asked. They started a conversation that many wouldn’t.
Does he love a man?
Does she love a woman?
Does she love herself?
It was a compelling discussion. Hard to follow with an equally intriguing show, but they didn’t disappoint. Bright lights, and all we saw was a girl. Lost but finding herself, once someone else but now free to be herself.
Today, ours is a world where we are constantly exposed to stories of absolute devastation but also those of unconditional love. And thanks to the world wide web, we see it all. It’s this paradox that Huemn personified in their showcase, with the key message being to “sensitize the desensitized”, as Shyma puts it.
Here’s a closer look.

With a play on patterns and cut outs, basic functional pieces were reinvented to create an unconventional and fearless look. It was all about multi-dimentional clothing which featured day dresses, up-cycled denims and luxe athleisure with make-up that was inspired by the Israeli bombings.
The showcase wasn’t just about trends or fashion, it was about us. Reminding us to speak up, to love, to make our own rules. Quite a beautiful thought, don’t you think? #HumansAreMadeToLove
