The very talented Rajkummar Rao made his debut with a noteworthy act in the critically acclaimed film, Love Sex Aur Dhokha in 2010. He then delivered some more spectacular performances in Ragini MMS, Shaitan, Gangs of Wasseypur and Chittagong. After an array of unconventional movies, he tiptoed into the world of commercial Hindi cinema with Talaash featuring Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherji.
But it was only after Kai Po Che! that he started getting his dues in Bollywood. The underrated actor finally started getting noticed and he even won a Filmfare award for the Best Supporting Actor in the said flick.
That same year, he was awarded the Filmfare and the National Film Award for Best Actor and Critics Best Actor for his portrayal of Shahid Azmi in the biographical drama, Shahid.
He continued his impressive run by playing interesting characters in Queen, CityLights and Aligarh. He recently wowed with us his last outings, Trapped and Newton.
And guess what? Newton has made it as India’s official entry for The Oscars! Rajkummar took to Twitter to share his joy.
Congratulations to team Newton!
The film is directed by Amit V Masurkar, who had made his debut with the slacker comedy independent film, Sulemani Keeda (featuring the popular TVF Pitchers actor, Naveen Kasturia) in 2013.
Newton had its world premiere in the Forum section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. The story traces the life of Newton Kumar‘s character, a rookie government clerk is sent on election duty to a naxal-controlled town in the conflict-ridden jungles of Chhattisgarh.
If you haven’t watched it yet, you have to give a dekko ASAP.
Rajkummar is currently prepping for an upcoming web series, Bose Dead Or Alive, and Fanney Khan opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
