Before I say anything else, I have to tell you that I’m a massive Selena Gomez fan girl. If there’s one person I absolutely admire, it’s her. She’s strong, confident, kind, caring, passionate, and I can go on and on. Selena revealed back in 2015 that she was diagnosed with lupus – a chronic autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body ranging from your skin to joints or organs. She spoke about how she suffers from anxiety, depression and panic attacks, as these are side effects of lupus.
While Selena did release a new single over the summer, she has laid low for a while now and wasn’t seen out and about promoting the song. A lot of her fans sent her messages on social media asking her where she was and she revealed today, through an Instagram post, that she underwent a kidney transplant because of the disease. Actress Francia Raisa – a close friend of Selena’s, donated her kidney to her, and Selena couldn’t thank her enough for it. She shared a heartwarming message on her Instagram.
I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so muchsis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made.

This has given friendship goals a brand new meaning altogether. Such heartwarming news to read and it makes us believe in the power of humanity. Sending you all our love and good wishes, Selena.
