Early this year, Kangana Ranaut had called Karan Johar a ‘flag bearer of nepotism’ on his popular talk show, Koffee With Karan. She had also said that he’s ‘intolerant’ towards outsiders in the industry.
And at the recently held IIFA awards in New York, KJo made a remark that triggered a controversy. The filmmaker said, “Kangana naa hi bole toh achha hai… Kangana bahut bolti hai” in response to Varun Dhawan, when he had quipped, “There was a song in your film… Bole Choodiyan, Bole Kangana.”
Before that, Saif Ali Khan joked saying, “You are here because of your pappa (David Dhawan),” as Varun accepted an award. Varun replied, “And you’re here because of your mummy (Sharmila Tagore).” Karan also joined in saying, “I am here because of my pappa (late filmmaker Yash Johar).”
Then they said together, “Nepotism rocks”.
This stirred up a storm on social media and the trio received a lot of flak for making fun of Kangana and talking so blatantly about nepotism in Bollywood.
A while ago, Varun took to Twitter to apologize.
