Colouring your hair can make or break your look. If you’re a newbie to hair dye, taking the plunge can be so terrifying (Trust me, I’ve been there!). Here are some pointers you need to know to save your sanity and your hair!
1. Decide if you’re a warm or cool skin tone
First question: are you someone with a cool or warm skin tone? Once you decided that, you can go ahead and explore the hues in that colour circle.
2. The colour won’t be exactly like your reference shot
Like we mentioned above, no matter if it’s Selena Gomez or Kylie Jenner hair reference, you have to keep in mind YOUR skin colour. You can always look for inspiration but know that the look and colour won’t always be the same.
3. Switch to a shampoo and conditioner for colour-treated hair
Because colour-saving shampoos are free of chemicals like sulfates, they help preserve your hair colour and vibrancy. Because ain’t no one want a dull colour!
4. Maintenance is key
Regular touch ups are a must! Hair grows about 1/2 inch every month, so depending on the look you’re going for you will have to get your roots re-touched every 6-8 weeks at least!
5. Using purple shampoo can remove brassiness
Yes, this is true. As weird as it sound, purple or lavender shampoo can help you get rid of brassiness. So all you ladies with that have blonde or highlighted hair, this is product will be a live saver!
6. Red tones is hard to maintain
We know you might need a “change” but unless you’re Emma Stone and have the power of God on your side, red is not the colour you want to go for. This is the hardest colour to perfect. Possibly the hardest to get rid of and fades the fastest!
7. Deep-condition you hair on the regular
Just like you would go for regular upkeep and touchups, deep-conditioning your hair is a must! Colour-treated hair needs a little extra love and affection. Use a mask at least once a week or then visit a salon of a colour-treated treatment.
