Olaplex has been a major rage in the beautysphere for a while now, so I knew I had to give it a shot and see what the fuss is all about. Lucky for me, I already had a good salon in mind that offered this treatment. The Cut Collective, Mumbai specialises in skincare and hair care with two active branches—one in Bandra and the other on Pedder Road. The founder and owner of the salon Lekha was more than happy to give my curiosity a rest and offer me a day of Olaplex. So keep reading and see the discoveries I have made with this treatment.
What Is Olaplex?
Olaplex is a hair care treatment that helps construct better hair structure and repairs the damage done to your bleached/coloured hair. It is also used while colouring to prevent the damage done during the process. This hair regimen has picked up really well with celebs like Kim Kardashian, Jenifer Lopez, Rita Ora and Khloe Kardashian going all out on their social platforms about it.
It is basically an extreme make-over version of a hair spa, which includes three concentrations of the product. The first two products of Olaplex are required to be used at salons by a hair expert. However, the third product is a use-at-home concentration that maintains the efforts of the salon service.
What is the process?
Step 1: George the Senior Hair Expert at The Cut Collective, first gave my hair a lovely wash using a shampoo and rinsed it with luke warm water. Post the cleanse, he blast dried my hair to further open up the hair cuticles.
Step 2: Now my hair was ready for Olaplex No. 1—Bond Multiplayer. It is a yellow-ish concentration which is mixed with water according to the length and density of your hair. The concentration was then applied to my hair (not scalp) and left for 10 minutes.
Step 3: After 10 minutes the hair expert applied Olaplex No. 2—Bond Perfecter. Its consistency was like a hair cream and it was applied on my hair like a conditioner. It was left for about 20 minutes. This product helps to seal the concentration put in step 2.
Step 4: George then rinsed out the product with water (no shampoo) and blast dried my hair for a shiny styling and voila!
How much does this treatment cost?
This treatment is not your basic hair spa and thus it might not come in your budget. It will cost you anywhere from INR 3000 to INR 10,000 depending on your hair length and density.
How often do I need to do Olaplex?
A minimum of 3 sittings is advised by any hair expert. After the 3rd sitting, you can purchase the Olaplex No. 3, which is an extension of the range. It maintains the salon treatment and repairs your hair completely, over time. You need to apply it on damp hair after shampoo, once a week and leave it on for 15-20 minutes, then rinse it out with luke warm water.
So that’s everything you need to know about this product. Hope this review can help you make up your mind whether you’d want to take the plunge or not. I’d say, don’t think twice because in today’s day and age who has not damaged their hair?
