No matter how much we hate them, trolls are a major source of entertainment for us. It’s true that more often than not, they stretch the joke too far, they are harsh and sometimes, they are entirely unwanted. But there is no denying that some of them are downright funny.
Here’s taking a look at all the celebs who got trolled in 2016 – for better or worse.
1. Shilpa Shetty for calling Animal Farm a children’s book
Shilpa was tirelessly trolled on Twitter after she misinterpreted George Orwell‘s Animal Farm to be a children’s book.
Ouch!
2. Pierce Brosnan for endorsing a tobacco brand
The ex- James Bond got pierce’d’ quite hard when he was on the front page of a leading newspaper, endorsing a top tobacco brand. Needless to say, Twitterati had a ball.
That’s the tip of the ice paan oops, iceberg, I meant.
3. Sonam Kapoor for her Cannes’ red carpet gown
Sonam Kapoor rarely gets it wrong in the book of fashion. This year’s Cannes red carpet outing was no different as she stepped out wearing a gorgeous Ralph & Russo gown. Twitterati, however, begs to differ. The dress was compared to a rumali roti, taco, dosa batter and what not!
4. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s purple lips
Erm, purple lips? K.
5. Shobhaa De on her tweet about Olympics candidate
Err, Shobhaa made a boo-boo! That’s the perfect example of freedom of speech being a bane, more than a boon.

Well, she asked for it!
6. Mini Mathur for Demonetisation
The demonetisation had the entire country voicing their opinion, some supporting NaMo while some called it a bad move. Mini Mathur fell in the latter category.
After 24 hours of being trolled, Mini got back at them.
7. Priyanka Chopra’s armpits
Priyanka Chopra makes news overtime for everything, including her armpits.
But PeeCee got back #LikeABoss
Burrrn!
8. Priyanka Chopra’s T-shirt
And her tank top also makes news. This one was serious, though.
9. Katrina Kaif for winning the Smita Patil award
I may not be the best judge here, but Twitter gave its verdict.
10. Soha Ali Khan
Trolling her was in very bad taste and absolutely not required. It helps that Soha is an LSE graduate, so the trolls can be put on the backfoot. BUT even if she didn’t have the degree, she still has the right to express her opinion, right guys?
11. Bobby Deol on becoming a DJ
Not sure if the same holds true in this case. Bobby Deol made his debut as DJ in a Delhi night club. However, it all turned ugly as crowd got angry and demanded refund when Bobby played Gupt songs on loop.

12. And Ashmit Patel followed soon
A club in Mumbai’s Vashi area called Mojo’s Bristo hosted a Bollywood night with “DJ Ashmit Patel” this year in September. Twitter was euphoric, of course.
13. Pahlaj Nihalani for censoring Udta Punjab
In a bizarre move by the CBFC chief, Pahlaj Nihalani spoke against filmmaker, Anurag Kashyap and made 94 cuts in the latter’s film, Udta Punjab.
Very soon, #UdtaPahlaj was trending.
14. Neil Nitin Mukesh on his wedding
He did nothing but got married. Twitter had a field day and some trolls were funny, to be honest.
15. Salman Khan on his acquittal
Bhai got acquitted in the Chinkara poaching case by the Rajasthan High Court. The verdict did not go down too well with Twitterati.
The trolls poured in equal quantities as the congratulatory messages on Salman’s phone.
16. Shah Rukh Khan detained yet again at the US airport
SRK was detained at Los Angeles airport by the US immigration department in August. Twitter went abuzz with jokes, as this is not the first time the star was detained.
Love them or hate them but there is no escaping them Twitter trolls.
