While Delhi deals with the severe aftermaths of the Diwali patakas and endless celebrations in the sky, we’ve caught word of the perfect way to spend your next couple of Sundays. We need to mention that its indoors and in close proximity to coffee, Sangria (or Coffee Sangria!) and lip smacking glorious food… Woohoo! *cough*
Lightcube Film Society, a Delhi based film collective, is hosting a month long retrospective to celebrate the beautiful animated films of Japan’s, and quite possibly one of the contemporary worlds’ greatest living filmmakers – Isao Tanaka. Famous as one-half and co-founder of Studio Ghibli, which has a massive cult following in the anime circles, Takahata’s most recent film, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, was nominated for for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2013.
This filmmaker likes to take his time with his films, so although his filmography isnt long and elaborate, his films are characteristic of a certain style, with a preference for depth over breadth. All his works will hit you right in the feeelz. We can gaurantee that!
Lightcube will be screening his major achievements along with a couple of his lesser known films at Perch in Vasant Vihar (Delhi) at 6:30 pm every Sunday this November.
Here’s the schedule for the first half of the month:
6th November – The Tale of Princess Kaguya (2013) | 137 mins
13th November – Pom Poko (1994) | 119 mins
