Vidhu Vinod Chopra was recently asked about his opinion regarding the Mohammed Rafi dialogue in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Shahid Rafi, Sonu Nigam and Bappi Lahiri allegedly expressed their disappointment about the inclusion of the dialogue in the film in the past. At the screening of Marathi film Ventilator, Vidhu expressed his disinterest in the film and even chose to avoid naming the film when asked about his take on the dialogue.
Here’s what he said:
Dekhiye, pehle toh main aapko kehna chahta hoon ki main hindi film dekhta hi nahi hoon. Jis film ka aapne naam liya, na maine dekhi hai, na dekhoonga. Main agar aaj yahaan aaya hoon aur agar screening ki hai Ventilator ki, toh main samajhta hoon ki yeh itni khoobsurat aur acchi film hai. Aap dekhna zaroor aur aap bhool jaayenge ki kisne kiska mazaak udaaya hai. Kyun ki jab accha cinema banta hai, toh woh kisi aur level pe chal jaata hai.
This translates to:
Firstly, I want to say that I don’t watch Hindi films. I haven’t watched the film that you named, neither will I watch it. I’m here for the screening of Ventilator because I believe it’s a beautiful film. Do watch the film – you’ll forget who has made fun of whom. Because when great cinema is made, it goes to another level.
