Masaba‘s Spring Summer 17’ at Amazon India Fashion Week (presented by Maybelline New York) was a clear representation of progressive Indian fusion wear. It was a collection featuring capes, peek-a-boo bustiers, bell bottoms with slinky slips that could be effortlessly converted into night-time pieces.
I loved the versatility and the usability in her designs making it more approachable to the woman of today whether she lives in New York or New Delhi. Keeping her aesthetic constant that mainly consists of prints, she added some new motifs to her bank of designs. These were slightly embellished to keep it more attuned for the festive season. The best part about the show was the live jazz music playing in the background that complemented the vibe of this NYC inspired collection to perfection.
Elton Fernandez went all out and bold on the makeup for this show. The unique element here was the vivid neon pops of colour used on the lips and modern dashes on the eyes (instead of the classic liner) using Colossal Liner, Super Black Kajal and the Lasting Drama Gel Liner from Maybelline New York. For the hair, the looks started with slightly school-girlish pigtail braids and as the lineup progressed, morphed into dreadlocks! Bet that’s one beauty look you never expected to sport with a saree!
Showstopper Athiya Shetty walked the ramp in printed white palazzos,a black crop top and a flowing printed cape – a perfect representation of Masaba’s vision to mix monochrome and prints together. The makeup was simple – a bright pink pout was all it took to accentuate her black and white outfit.
