I’m a denim girl and if there’s a particular denim trend going on – I already have it stashed away in my closet. But this one for me took a bit of convincing. I wasn’t sure if it would look good on me, or if I’d be comfortable in the so-called “wedgie” denim. But I finally caved and bought a pair of “Mom Jeans” – And I love it! It’s definitely the most comfortable pair of jeans I own and it most certainly doesn’t give me a wedgie!
Mom jeans or the vintage fit denim trend has been gaining popularity over the past couple of years. Back in the ’80s and ’90s, the iconic style was high-waisted with a cropped, slightly tapered leg, and was a major fashion staple. From Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis in the hit film Thelma and Louise to the entire female cast of F.R.I. E.N.D.S in the begining seasons, all rocked the mom jeans.
There was a time when mom jeans were considered a fashion abomination. They were said to be unflattering to a woman’s body, and made your butt look larger and fatter. The fit was just all over the place. But that changed drastically in the past few years. With the growing interest in vintage fashion and the general love for all things high-waisted, mom jeans have been reinvented and made into something a lot more fashionable.
There are so many styling options that you can experiment with. I can now wear crop tops and not have to worry about constanatly sucking my tummy in! You can wear sneakers or heels, dress it up or down. The choices are limitless.
I bought my jeans when I was travelling to the U.S from Urban Outfitters. The fit is perfect. It’s high waisted, cropped and my legs have space to breathe and move comfortably.
I’ve only just started experimenting with this baby. But there are so many ways you can style these denims. Take a look at some more styling options…
