There are some items of clothing that are so fundamental to a girl’s wardrobe that they can be likened to the building blocks or foundation of a structure. In the same way you can build upon a solid base, you can build upon these few clothes to create and express your personal style. These items can go by many names, some of which include- must-haves, essentials and basics, but we found our favourite term for them while perusing the Dorothy Perkins collection for Jabong – Style Heroes SS16.
There are a few summer Style Heroes that we wanted to talk about, so instead of just doing a straight up blog, MissMalini decided to partner up with the brand that gave us this snappy term and have a little fun! We headed over to Hoppipola in Lower Parel to do a shoot with these clothes according to our personal style preferences. After some much-needed sustenance in the form of satay sticks, nachos and refreshing signature mocktails, we were all ready to begin.
Anyway, getting back to the point, just FYI, Here’s the list of the ten Style Heroes:
- The Shirt Dress – Everyone should own a shirt dress. It’s no muss, no fuss and super stylish for the summer.
- The Sleeveless Jacket – These work amazingly well for layering in the summer. You heard right.
- The Off-The-Shoulder Top – Aside from being totally on trend, this style can be worn to both, work and play!
- The Ankle Grazer – These smart trousers allow you to showcase your footwear damn well.
- The Summer Knit – You can wear these over your bikini to the beach or over denims for a brunch date. They work just as well in both situations.
- The Summer Wrap – This fringe throw can add some boho flair to any basic outfit in an instant.
- The Column Skirt – This is another versatile piece that can be worn to work or out to party!
- The Pinny Dress – Finally, pinafores are perfect for the summer because you can wear them with a top inside or without if it gets too hot.
- The Romantic Top – This style spells summer romance with the use of lace and frill, but can also work as formal work wear.
- The Shoe Boot – This cross breed style that brings together the boot and the summer sandal is a new style that you’ll wonder what you did without!

For our work looks, both Malini & Sanaa paired off-shoulder tops with column skirts in varying prints. On the other hand, Anushka and I both loved the sleeveless jacket, but wore it in two different ways. She wore her rust jacket over a skirt and tank top, while I gravitated towards the chic ankle-grazers and sexy navy pumps to pair with my white jacket.

When it came to our casual choices, everyone was on a different tangent. Malini picked bright orange pumps to go with her pinny dress that she wore over a really cool crop top. Anushka looked like a poster child for the summer in a cute shirt dress, Sanaa channelled some boho vibes dressing up her denims with a summer wrap and I fell head-over-heels in love with a printed knit cape that I wanted to wear over everything!
Now you’re probably wondering how to get your hands on this fashion mother load. And the answer is that you have to check Jabong’s Facebook, Instagram & Twitter pages, STAT and check out the rest of the Spring-Summer ’16 collection!
