I really enjoyed watching Kapoor & Sons this year and I truly believe it set a really high benchmark for family dramas in Bollywood. The entire cast of the movie breathed life into its characters and Sidharth Malhotra shared a very special anecdote from the shoot. In an interview with Rajeev Masand, Sid was asked about the scene where he, Fawad Khan and Rishi Kapoor smoke a joint in the movie and just what made that scene so enjoyable.
He said:
Now people have seen the film, so okay. The scene when Fawad and I come back to the room was shot before and the one with Rishi sir was shot later. So we had to pretend to be high… on this particular chemical… and come back to the room and giggle and be like brothers and chat like ‘I’m going to become our parents’ favourite’ and stuff like that. This was only five days into the shoot and it was our third or fourth night-shoot. For some reason, we thought it’d be interesting to get actually high and try… method acting… we were trying to be true to our content, true to the scene ki kuch karenge, kuch karenge! But it didn’t work. It went the other way round (laughs).
He added:
I still managed somehow, I feel, but my other colleague was a bit, you know, aware. Sometimes you become more aware when you’re high – your senses are heightened. And it got so weird. I started ad-lib-ing during his close-ups… lot of colorful language was used. I abused the shit out of him in Hindi, Punjabi and then the high started kicking in and giggles came in. Shakun (Batra) was laughing behind… it helped the scene so much as people can see. It doesn’t seem like we are performing!
